What Changed: A New Gas Main in Estell Manor

South Jersey Gas completed its Dorothy Phase 1 main extension serving parts of 1st Ave, 7th Ave West, Cumberland Ave, Fifth Ave, Honest John Rd, South Jersey Ave, and Tuckahoe Rd. Homes on the utility’s new-service list now have a path to natural gas service that was not available before.

What an Oil to Gas Conversion Includes

A conversion has two separable parts. You can install the line only, convert one appliance, or plan the complete heating and water-heating change together.

1

New Gas Line

Budd’s runs a permitted gas line from the meter to the home and routes service to the equipment included in the project. Learn more about gas line installation.

2

Heating Conversion

An oil-fired furnace or boiler can be replaced with natural-gas equipment sized for the home. Review Budd’s heating system installation approach.

3

Water Heater Conversion

An oil, propane, or electric water heater can be replaced with an eligible gas-fired model. See options for water heater conversion.

Confirmed equipment lines include Trane, Carrier, Ruud, Rheem, and Goodman for forced-air systems; Navien, Weil-McLain, and Noritz for boiler or combi systems; and Bradford White, Ruud, Rheem, and Navien for water heaters.

Is It Worth Converting?

The decision is usually less about a generic savings claim and more about what changes in the day-to-day operation of your home.

Oil deliveries and tank upkeep

Homeowners often want to stop scheduling deliveries, monitoring tank levels, and planning for eventual oil-tank maintenance or replacement.

Propane comparison

If you currently use propane, the new main creates a real opportunity to compare the equipment and project scope before your next replacement.

Aging heating equipment

A furnace, boiler, or water heater nearing replacement can make this a practical moment to consider changing fuel types.

An unfamiliar process

If the SJ Gas mailing or a neighbor was your first notice, Budd’s can explain the utility, permit, line, and equipment steps in plain language.

Plan Qualifying Equipment Through the Gas Bill

Convert your home to natural gas and you may qualify for 0% APR on-bill financing and available rebates when you install eligible high-efficiency natural-gas equipment. Eligibility and program requirements apply.

Connecting to the new gas main alone does not automatically qualify a home. Budd’s verifies the proposed furnace, boiler, or eligible water heater and the project costs against current program requirements before making any financing commitment.

On-Bill Repayment Program

SJGas customers can finance qualifying high-efficiency upgrades directly through their gas bill — no separate loan application needed.

  • 0% APR financing
  • Up to 7 years standard repayment
  • Up to 10 years for income-qualified customers
  • Available for qualifying HVAC & heating upgrades

Oil to Gas Conversion FAQs

Either. Budd’s handles line-only hookups and full heating/water-heater conversions — the scope is up to you.

It depends on the distance from the street main to your home and whether you’re converting the heating system, the water heater, or both. Ask for a free estimate specific to your home.

Timeline depends on scope. Most gas line work requires a permit and inspection in New Jersey, which affects scheduling on top of the install itself.

Many homeowners convert to stop dealing with oil deliveries and tank maintenance, and financing through South Jersey Gas can make the upfront cost more manageable — talk to us about your specific setup rather than relying on a generic answer.
